The Rhine Meeting 2016 is held under the patronage of the European Parliament, represented by Martin Schulz, and of the Archbishop of Cologne, Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki.
The European Parliament
President Martin Schulz writes:
The European Union is founded on the following values: respect for human dignity; freedom; democracy; equality; the rule of law; and the protection of human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minority groups. Your initiative, which brings young Europeans together to participate in an open dialogue about the basic values of the EU, illuminated by a variety of perspectives, is therefore highly appreciated by our institution.
Since the European Parliament has always supported projects promoting common European values and contributing to inter-cultural dialogue, strengthening a shared sense of European identity, I am very glad to assure the Rhine Meeting of the patronage of the European Parliament.
The Archbishop of Cologne
Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki assumes the patronage of the Rhine Meeting 2016, as his predecessor Joachim Kardinal Meisner had done for the editions of 2014 and 2015.
