When Values Come to Life is the title of the exhibition by SWAP (Share With All People), a group of friends studying at the Catholic University Milan. It tells of those involved directly or indirectly in the Egyptian revolution.
The exhibition originated from an idea of a Muslim student in Milan to raise awareness of the present suffering of the Egyptian people and of the violence against Christians. From this idea, a friendship arose between Muslim and Christian students, mostly first or second generation Egyptians.
SWAP is about discovering one’s own identity and the value of difference. The exhibition draws attention to people who have involved themselves personally in this time and thus made a contribution to history. They have shared a humanity beyond political ideologies, religious and sociological convictions. The exhibition is not about “Egypt” but these Egyptians.
Photos, pictures, graffiti and videos tell the story of the friendship between Mina Daniel and Tareq el Salafi; the courage of Samira Ibrahim; the struggle of the doctor Mona Mina; the hope of young Gika; and the solidarity of Mohamed Kristy. The stories proclaim values which reach beyond religion and politics and touch everyone. They challenge, encourage and give hope.
The SWAP students were encouraged and supported by Wael Farouq, Lecturer in Arabic Literature at the Catholic University of Milan.
